This development provides student accommodation buildings located at Twerton Mill, Lower Bristol Road, Bath.
Historically, the site was occupied by Carrs Mill and contained three buildings (Avalon Garage, Astra Circuits Limited and Huggett Electrical Ltd) which were demolished to make way for the new development. The site is flanked by the River Avon to the North and the railway to the south of the Lower Bristol Road.
The scheme consists of a total of 327 student residential rooms, spread over three blocks and three town houses. The three blocks are designated A, B & C and the town houses are designated TH1, TH2 & TH3. Each contain a mix of studio apartments, ensuite cluster rooms with common kitchen/dining areas, bedrooms (shared bathroom/wc) with common kitchen/dining areas.
The studio apartments are self-contained with ensuite shower/wc and kitchenette. The cluster rooms contain a number of bedrooms each with ensuite shower/wc with connecting hallways to common kitchen/dining rooms.
The town houses consist of common kitchen/dining rooms with a number of bedrooms and a bathroom/wc at each floor level.
Block A – consists of ground plus three floors. At ground floor level there is the main reception, office, gym, laundry and common room. There is also a cycle and bin store at the rear. Levels one to three inclusive, house student accommodation rooms served by a single staircase and lift.
Block B – is T shape in plan. The lower section, facing the Lower Bristol road, consists of ground plus three floors. This section houses the new substation and plantrooms at ground floor with accommodation rooms on the three floors above. The top section consists of ground plus four floors all housing accommodation rooms. The sections are connected at levels 1, 2 and 3. There is a central staircase and lift serving all floors.
Block C – is located at the rear of the site and consists of ground plus four floors of accommodation. There is cycle storage at ground level and the floors are served by a single staircase and lift.
Town Houses – the three town houses are all ground plus two levels. TH1 and TH2 front onto the Lower Bristol Road and TH3 is located in the north east corner between Block C and Rackfield Place. The rear façade faces the River Avon.
