The Milner Centre for Evolution is a two-storey research facility incorporating laboratories, offices and a seminar room for academics researching evolution.

Located in the southwest of the campus it is part of the Department of Biology & Biochemistry and named after Dr Jonathan Milner, who donated £5m towards establishing the centre.

The Milner Centre will be the first of its kind for evolutionary science research and will boast a large central breakout space designed to encourage collaboration, deliver the outreach programme and give lectures. In addition, principal investigator and postdoctoral / postgraduate offices will be supported by new research laboratories, providing advanced research facilities.

The building will also integrate patterning in the façades that reflect genome alignment describing the DNA code of various key organisms, providing identity and architectural detail to the building.

The building has been constructed to a ‘Spirit of BREEAM’ Excellent rating.

MEP Engineering Solutions Ltd were appointed by the services contractor to undertake detailed design duties.
